Description:

During this three-day workshop, we will delve into the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and computational design for world-building. Participants will engage in hands-on experiences with AI tools to create and refine 3D models and 360-degree environments, using their smartphones as VR headsets to visualize their designs on a realistic scale.

Day 1: Theory

  1. Use Cases
    • Explore real-world examples where AI and VR have transformed design processes and outcomes.
  2. Understanding AI and Its Societal Impact
    • Provide a comprehensive overview of AI, explaining its fundamental concepts and technologies.
    • Discuss the societal implications of AI, highlighting its potential benefits and challenges.
  3. Mechanics of Generative AI
    • Break down the mechanics of generative AI, explaining how algorithms generate new content.
    • Explore different types of generative AI models and their applications in design, including how AI can use data.
  4. Responsible AI Usage
    • Emphasize the importance of responsible AI usage, focusing on transparency, fairness, and accountability.
    • Introduce best practices for ensuring ethical AI implementation in design projects.
  5. Ethical Debate
    • Facilitate an ethical debate among participants, encouraging them to discuss and reflect on the dilemmas posed by AI in design to build critical thinking skills.
    • Cover topics such as data privacy, AI bias, and the impact of AI on employment.

Day 2: Practice

  1. AI Tools
    • Introduce a range of AI tools used in design, from easy to advanced.
  2. Transforming Your Smartphone into a VR Headset
    • Guide participants through transforming their smartphones into VR headsets.
    • Demonstrate DIY physical headsets to house their smartphones.
    • Offer troubleshooting tips and best practices for optimal VR experiences.
  3. 3D Image Capturing
    • Teach participants the basics of photogrammetry and LiDAR scanning techniques for capturing real-world objects and spaces.
    • Demonstrate how to integrate these scans into digital models for computational design.
  4. World-building
    • Explore the principles of world-building, focusing on creating immersive and interactive 3D environments.
  5. Different Workflows
    • Introduce various workflows for integrating AI and VR into design projects.
    • Demo AI tool integration with different 3D software platforms like Blender.
    • Discuss the advantages and challenges of different approaches, helping participants choose the best workflow for their needs.

Day 3: Integration

  1. Q&A Session
    • Provide an open forum for participants to ask questions and seek clarification.
    • Offer personalized guidance and support to help participants overcome any challenges.
  2. Putting It All Together
    • Guide participants through integrating all the skills and knowledge they have acquired.
    • Offer step-by-step instructions for creating a cohesive and comprehensive 3D environment using AI and VR tools.
  3. Collaborative Project
    • Facilitate a collaborative project where participants create a 3D environment.
    • Encourage teamwork, creativity, and peer learning, allowing participants to apply their skills in a real-world context.

Learning Objectives :

By the end of this workshop, participants will have the skills and confidence to turn their innovative ideas into reality using AI and VR technologies. They will leave with a comprehensive 3D-built world that can be exported to their preferred 3D modeling software or embedded in their websites. This workshop is designed to be accessible even to those with minimal technical skills, providing all the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively communicate and iterate on their design visions.
