Local Intelligence

-artificial intelligence | - online workshop | -English

Description:

Required Skills: basic knowledge on coding skills in Python (beginners also encouraged)

Required Software: Google Colab, Anaconda (optional), Jupyter Notebook (optional)
Maximum number of participating students: 100

This workshop is designed as experimentation on whether we can use, the open-source algorithms, CNN and GANs, and appropriate datasets for understanding locality by correlating vernacular architecture with local folklore music.    During this experimentation, participants will have the chance to set up a multimodal AI model that they can later try out with other data types. Students may also contribute to the experiment by sharing their local datasets.

Instructors:

Lale Basarir Lâle has a PhD from Izmir Institute of Technology. Her research project ArchiRobie(Artificial Intelligence(AI) Architect) continues in the Izmir University of Economics where she is an Assistant Professor in Architecture. Her professional experience ranges from architectural design to consumer electronics design and to the art of glassblowing. Lâle’s MSc from Architectural Design Computing Program at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) with her thesis research “Possible Futures for Architectural Entity within the Context of Transdisciplinary Technological Developments” led her to the inaugural Graduate Studies Program ’09 at Singularity University at NASA Ames Research Center in 2009. Since 2011 she taught Architectural Design Studio, BIM, CAD, and Artificial Intelligence in Architecture.
Selen Çiçek After completing her Bachelor Architecture education at Middle East Technical University (METU) as a honor student in 2020, Selen Çiçek started her masters education in İstanbul Technical University's (ITU) Architectural Design Computing Program. Computational basic design education and architectural design cognition are the primary interests for her research. She continues her research about the application of the Space Syntax theory into the public spaces, as well the further interests of machine learning in architecture and shape grammar theory. Starting from the 2022, she holds a research assistant position in İzmir University of Economics Faculty of Arts and Design Architecture Department.
