“What do we want from the computer? To predetermine everything for us, make the calculation in advance, and be the smartest AI in the cloud that tells us what we want to see every moment in the world? Or just something playful, sometimes random and unexpected, and something special?”
Monsters from the western and the eastern mythology and folklores were created with hybridized features from familiar biological archive. Fish and human, snake and chicken, eagle and lion, and many many more connect and exchange in unexpected ways. Where are they from? How do they connect? What do they do? Here, we use the power of computer to explore unexpected possibilities for architecture constructions. Welcome to the land of “monsters”.
In this workshop, we introduce a quasi-autonomous “mesh-center workflow” designed by HeXagōn {分集研究所}, the design practice founded by Nero He. To respond the agenda of DigitalFUTURE, the role of the designers in the third million is to collaborate with computers but not been override by the computational power to make unconscious decisions. The Rhino to Cinema 4D workflow allows a nonhuman-centric perspective to re-curate the sampled construction material collection. The workshop is taking on the challenge of upcycle architecture information, understanding the physical and digital material wastes and limitations, designing new joineries for unexpected building construction systems. We are trying to speculate architecture construction in the new ages which do not follow the standardized way of material assembly.
