Space Narration: Interactive Content Design in Mixed Reality

-AR/VR,-interactive design,-space architecture | - online workshop | -Chinese/English

Description:

Required Skills: 3D Modelling, Game Playing

Required Software: Unity、Arduino、SU、Rhino

Required Hardware: Laptop, Model material, Arduino, Hololens / Oculus Headset (Optional but recommended)
Maximum number of participating students: 100

This workshop is based on mixed reality technology and uses Arduino as the user’s input method. Unity receives the signal from the Arduino to realize the control of the virtual model. The user can view the Mixed Reality environment in HoloLens. Through the change of a simple entity model, users can express the need for spatial changes, add special effects in Unity, and assist in defining the environmental design of the entire space. During the workshop, the student will learn how to use Arduino and HoloLens to realize the MR interactive design, enhance the user’s experience and perception of the space, and participate in creating the architectural space. Students will need to design both the physical and virtual sides of the interaction process. They will then explore the process of MR interaction between the two. In the meantime, cultivate the design thinking of space narration, enrich the meaning expression of space design, and finally realize the environmental design in which virtual information is superimposed on reality.

Instructors:

Skyduo Sky Lo Tian Tian is a Hong-Kong born Singaporean currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). He was awarded a full doctoral scholarship by the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Victoria University of Wellington during his doctoral study. His main research area is the bottom-up human-centred architectural design concept, using VR, BIM, and gamification to create an interactive environment. He is currently working with a local rural entrepreneur to establish a new government-industry-university cooperative to pull resources together to achieve rural revitalisation. He is also one of the primary committee members and reviewers of various high-impacted academic organisations.
Fukai Chen Fukai Chen, a master at the School of Architecture, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), conducts research in mixed reality, architectural heritage, digital tourism, etc. Served as a teaching assistant for the "Interactive Reality" workshop in Digital Future in 2021. He was responsible for 2 VR environmental designs in Shenzhen Pingshan Art Museum & France DSL Collection exhibition on Sansar, which were also displayed in a joint exhibition with New York University. Participated in the 2021 Tencent Game Academy Summer Camp, and won the first prize of the excellent team as the art leader in the group. In 2021, he published a paper on the "MR Game" theme at the Education and research in Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe (eCAADe).
liocky Li Jiaqi is a master student at the School of Architecture, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), and her research interests include mixed reality, virtual and physical interaction technology, and participatory design. Committed to exploring the interesting experience of linkage between virtual and reality, and creating a mixed reality space scene. 1 related paper has been accepted by the 2022 European Conference on Computer Aided Architectural Design (eCAADe).
kenan Sun Kernan Sun is an architecture graduate student from Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). He has researched on digital design generation and construction, especially participatory design and digital fabrication of parametric design. He is dedicated to using VR, AR, and MR to assist in the participatory construction of parametric buildings and tries to use digital technology to help traditional builders understand the construction process of parametric buildings. In 2022, he published a paper on using multi-technology collaboration to explore the construction of parametric bamboo architecture on Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia . And their design work "THE GREEN WEAVED CORRIDOR" is exhibited in the digital exhibition gallery(CAADRIA2022).
